Karen P Cannon
Karen Pilgrim Cannon, originally from Laurel, Mississippi, has lived in the Delaware/Maryland area since 1982. Even after 30 years, she still considers herself a "Southern Girl" and maintains her southern accent to prove it.
Karen has been fascinated with art as far back as she can remember. A set of pastels from her godmother on her fifth birthday introduced her to a world of colorful possibilities. She paints primarily with acrylics but also loves the dreamy quality that oil lends to her landscapes. She enjoys adding texture and mixed media to her acrylic paintings. Texture and color are her requirements for a great painting.
Recently retired from working as a full
time psychiatric nurse, she spends most days painting -accompanied by her two studio mates Sophie and Jackson, both 11 year old Bischons.
Painting six days a week has helped
Karen make many discoveries about her painting style. Whether she is painting a floral, abstract or the occasional landscape, her emphasis is always color. Capturing the light and color of her subject is always her goal.
"I found I could say things with color and shapes that I couldn't say any other way - things for which I had no words"
